July 4th Fun - Parades, Swimming and More!
Another July 4th has come and gone and it was a great day celebrating our freedom with family and friends! It was a full day of activity, as is normal with holidays for us.
First up, was our neighborhood parade. It was rained out from the day before and we were all hoping and praying that it would hold off for attempt #2. The firetruck was able to reschedule but the ice cream truck that was scheduled unfortunately was not. :( I pulled the 4th decorations down from the attic and Russ and the kids got busy decorating their bikes. Then we made the short walk to the front of our house (ha!) where the parade started! It was a smaller crowd than we were expecting, but I'm sure that was due to the date change from the rain. The firetruck lead us around the block and the kids followed. This year Tyler did awesome and was in the front of the pack with all of the big kids pedaling away on his trike. I was going to push Caroline in her Little Tikes car, but she rode in the wagon with Connor instead. :)
Our little firecracker!!
Checking out her headband!
Ready to go in her car...that she didn't end up riding in! :)

A fun video of our crew "parading"! :)
After the parade, the firetruck hooked up to the hose and sprayed!!! Even though Tyler's cast was off, he was still very unsure of getting his arm wet and didn't want to run through the spray. He did ride through the mist and had fun stomping in the water puddles. Little Miss Caroline was a little too timid to run through the heavy spray, but had an absolute BALL running, splashing and playing in the gutter where all the water was draining. She and Connor had the BEST time! :) She was so soaking wet that we stripped her down outside so that we wouldn't bring the mess in! And just after we got settled inside, the skies opened up and the rain started to fall...thank you, Jesus, for waiting until our little parade was finished so the kids could have a blast.
The Fields Family!
Love this!!
Awwww!!
"Where are her clothes?!?" :) :)
Libby, love those cheeks and thighs, baby girl!!
She will hate me for this one day! :)
After naps, we loaded up the decorated bikes are headed to Jackson for parade #2 at the Brasfields, Their cookout/parade is an annual tradition and although Russ' Uncle was stuck in SC for work this year, the tradition continued without him. The kids paraded (why is it that the pics are over-exposed every year!!) and then we all ate. Surprisingly, Tyler really wanted to swim (first time since getting the cast off), so Russ and the kids changed into their suits. The water was pretty darn cold, but the kids had so much fun swimming. The deepest the Brasfield's pool gets is 5 feet and Tyler was so excited he could touch the bottom in the 3 foot sections. They had their big water slide again this year. Tyler wouldn't go by himself, but did go down a few times with Russ. Caroline went down with Russ, too, and loved it! She would have gone 100x if he would have taken her!
Jeff giving the Independence Day speech for Pop who couldn't be there this year!
It was a fun and exhausting day! I'm so glad we have Sunday to be lazy and recover from all the activity before heading back to school and work.
