What's Buzzing with the Brasfields: We have a 6 month old!

Tyler Glenn, it is so hard to believe you are 6 months old! It actually snowed on your Half birthday (December 7th) and it was our 2nd snow of the season. CRAZY!

We went to see Dr. H for your 6 month checkup on the 9th. He was super impressed with how well you are sitting up already! We are supposed to work on supported standing between now and your 9 month visit...you already do this great, so we are ahead of the curve. We also get to move on to Stage 2 baby foods. Yay! We can start "puffs" at 8 months and Dr. H said we'll talk about table food next visit. You got 4 shots this month including your first ever flu shot. We have to go back for your 2nd flu shot next month. Here are your stats. About the same as last time, except your head really grew! The weight # is very deceiving, as you are already almost 15 1/2 pounds now.

Length: 25.75", 26th percentile

Weight: 14 lbs., 3rd percentile

Head circumference: 42 cm., 11th percentile

Other things about our 6 month old:

Mommy has packed away almost all of your 0-3 month clothes now and you are wearing 6 month clothes. Sniff sniff.

You wear size 2 diapers still, but I expect you'll be in size 3 after Christmas...you are putting on the holiday pounds, too. Ha!

If you missed the previous post, you are now sleeping through the night! AHHHHH! We start your bedtime routine about 7p...bath (every other night), pajamas, eat and bedtime story...if you stay awake long enough. Daycare just wears you out! You are in bed by 7:45p and sleep usually until 6-6:30a. Even longer on the weekends! Hooray!

Mommy is your favorite. Recently, when I pick you up from daycare, you've started giving me a big 'ole smile and then start crying immediately for me to pick you up. You also do this when you are tired and at night just before bed. You aren't quite reaching out for me, but you are close. And I LOVE it because I know it won't last forever!

We love it when you giggle and squeal out loud! And you do it all the time now. It is so innocent and sweet and your eyes look like they are dancing with excitement. I don't think I've ever heard a more precious sound.

Things you LOVE:

You still love to eat! Prunes, bananas and sweet potatoes are your favorites. You are liking the Stage 2 foods we have tried so far and mostly it's been combinations of foods you've already tried. Baby food chicken seems yucky to me, but you seem to like it!
Your favorite song is "The Itsty Bitsy Spider". You like to watch Mommy do all the motions. Really, you love any song that I sing...you stop crying to listen.
Your exersaucer is the best toy ever! You really love it and are now spinning all around in it and grabbing everything on it. You have recently discovered the bird that has ribbon feathers on it's head and you love to play with those ribbons!
Since you are sitting up so well now, we have started putting you on the floor on a blanket to play. We put the Boppy behind you in case you tumble over, but you don't really need it. Your favorite things to play with are these little Baby Einstein balls...they are just small enough for you to grab with one hand. You also like your little xylophone piano and your Old McDonald animal toy that makes noise.

NEW things you've done:

You are so coordinated with your hands now. When you reach for something, you go straight to it, pick it up and put it in your mouth. No more fumbling! You are also grabbing your feet all the time and putting them in your mouth.
You discovered your tongue and love to stick it out and lick your lips.
You now have a tooth! Your first on the bottom! It is taking it's sweet time, but it is almost all the way in now. AND, it looks like your 2nd bottom tooth will be making an appearance any day now...just in time for Christmas!
