Belated 10 Year Anniversary Trip to Nashville

Our 10 year anniversary was December 4th. We had wanted to piggyback my work trip to Miami in November to celebrate, but Russ ran out of vacation days due to getting snowed in at Super Bowl last January. So, we decided to take a weekend trip to Nashville the first weekend of the new year for a belated celebration.

We stayed at the Opryland Hotel...one night was free on points and we paid for the other. While the hotel is beautiful, I don't think we will stay there again. We had a lot of issues during our stay that made it very challenging...I'll just leave it at that! Oh well...live and learn. Everything was still decorated for Christmas, so that was nice at least.

Russ took a half day, and once we arrived and checked into the hotel, we headed to Joe and Kat's house. I had never seen it and Russ had not seen the new kitchen that Joe had installed himself earlier in the year. They live in East Nashville and we walked to Local for dinner and then had ice cream at Jeni's. It was all super yummy.

After dinner, we went to play The Escape Game. We had an absolute blast! The basic gist is that they give you minimal instructions and "lock" you in a room for 60 minutes...you have to use clues given and clues you find in the room to escape. They have 4 different rooms and we played "Classified"...it wasn't the hardest of the 4, but not the easiest either (I think only like 33% of people actually escape the room we did.) It is a 6 person room, so they put 2 others with us to play. I don't want to spoil it for those of you may go play, but we did escape...with less than a minute to go! It was such a rush and was way harder than I thought it would be...it literally took all 6 of us doing different things to get out. If you are in Nashville and are looking for something fun and different to do, you need to do this! We can't wait to go back and play another room and had the best time hanging with Joe and Kat, too.

On Saturday we slept in a bit, went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and did a little shopping. We are in the market to upgrade to a King bed in 2015 and we shopped a bit for mattresses...just to get an idea of what we liked and how much we needed to save. Holy cow! Mattresses are expensive!!

Our room came with tickets to ICE, so Russ and I went to check it out. It was the last day so the crowd was pretty thin, which was nice. It was pretty neat, but definitely cold! After a nap at the hotel, we went out to nice dinner Etch in downtown Nashville. It was great...especially the amazing chocolate dessert to finish our night!

Made entirely of ice...crazy!

The view from our room.

The lights we came back to after a yummy dinner!

Sunday morning, we were excited to see the kids! We went to Cracker Barrel again (it was convenient) while we waited for Granna to arrive with the kids. We missed them so much! We had fun exploring all the conservatories, decorations and even rode the indoor boat.

On the boat!

It was a great trip away! Now to get unpacked (again!) and get ready to start the work and school week. Ugh.
