What's Buzzing with the Brasfields: June Little Things

I am starting a new post at the end each month to capture all the "little things" that happened that I don't want to forget, but aren't enough for their own dedicated post.

The kids started summer camp at Christ the King this month. It isn't much change for them as they are in their same classrooms and actually have their same teachers (some teachers choose to be off during the summer). The hours are also the same but each week has a "theme" and they pull a couple classes to participate in an activity that goes with the theme throughout the day. Each class has a water day every week, too, where they set up a bunch of little baby pools and toys for them to splash around and squirt each other. They bring "field trips" to the school instead of the kids going off campus, like a petting zoo, Music for Aardvarks, bounce houses, water slides and Bear-a-Bear...and it is all included in their camp participation fee. Much of June had a sports theme (soccer, basketball), which was unfortunate for Tyler since he couldn't participate with his arm, but he could do the craft days and the music days. They spend a lot of time playing on the playground and doing other fun things, too. They came home hot, sweaty and a complete mess almost every day...which is a sign of having so much fun! Since Caroline is now 2, her food is provided by the school like Tyler's has been all year. It was AMAZING to not pack any lunches!! :)

Tyler has been going to Lowe's Build and Grow projects since he was 2. This summer, Lowe's had superheroes themed projects to coincide with the new Avengers movie release. Tyler and Russ were joined by Connor and David for a lot of the builds this summer and we now have a complete set! Tyler has done so many build projects that I am running out of room on his vest for all his patches!

Caroline and I went to the craft store for a project and also picked up some beads...these 2 had fun making all kinds of bracelets. And kept gifting them to me. :) I was impressed that Caroline could hold the pipe cleaner and thread the beads without any help. And of course the beads ended up spilled all over the floor a few times, too.

We are board game people and always have been. I remember playing so many games as a child...my favorite was Clue and my brother's was Life. As adults, I typically ask for a new board game for Christmas each year and most of the time we play in and other favorites Christmas night with family. We love the "get-together" games like Cards Against Humanity, Guesstures and Catch Phrase, but also really enjoy playing strategy games. Our favorite for several years has been Ticket to Ride, or the "Train Game" as we more affectionately call it. A couple Christmas's ago, I asked for Settlers of Catann. It took us a whole year to actually play it, but once we learned it (it is tough to understand the first several times you play), we were hooked! The trouble is finding someone else to play with us. We introduced the Peregoys to Settlers on our Spring trip to Hot Springs and they loved it too. So, we played a game night to play again. They sent their kids to her parents and we got ours to bed and they came over on a Friday night to play. We enjoyed drinks, friendship and fun on our newly redone screened porch. It was a super fun night that we hope to do again soon! And of course we had to take some selfies! :)

The next morning, we had early breakfast plans with the Tigert family who were passing through town on their way to visit family in Texas. Russ and Tig (real name is Jason, but no one calls him that!) are fraternity brothers and have a long history. Tig was one of the first people I got to know at college, too, because he is a Dickson boy and knew my friend Sommer. Long story short, Tig is good people and so is his sweet wife Jessica and sweet little girl Cater. We don't get to see them often so this was a fun treat. Our kids were a little crazy at the restaurant, but it was still a good visit. They enjoyed visiting the tiger that they roar at to and from school every day afterwards the most! Ha!

The last week of the month, St. Louis Church (which is where we got married and is just up the street from us) hosted their annual Hole in One fundraiser. We took the kids one night after work and went. We enjoyed some of their yummy food...the kids had hot dogs and chips, Russ had a pork sandwich and I had the shrimp pizza! Russ got a bucket of balls and went to town. The kids and I watched for a little bit, but they got bored quickly so we went to the playground. Tyler did hit a couple balls before we left. Russ had a ball within inches of the hole! So close! He went back later that night to play a single ball against others for a chance to win a car, but didn't. He did win a prize and chose a new clock radio for me, which meant I could finally retire my over 20 year old one I had been using since high school. #IfItAintBroke Ha!

We also spent a lot of this month at Campbell Clinic for follow up appointments for Tyler's arm. He became a pro at waiting (as long as we had the iPad to entertain him) and being still for x-rays.
