The boy is FOUR!

Gosh, it is so hard to believe that our big kid is FOUR!! This will definitely be a memorable week for his parents as it was his first week of recovery post-surgery at home! He had fun staying at home with Granna all week and they did some fun things. They saw 2 movies...Paddington was at the $2 discount theater and Rio was playing as a part of the summer movie series. They also went for ice cream one day, too.

We celebrated an early birthday Mexican dinner at Las Delicias. It was in honor of both Tyler and Granna's upcoming birthdays, actually. Uncle Brian was going to be of town for Tyler's party and his actual birthday so we wanted to celebrate and wanted to see him. The service at Las was not as good as it usually is, so we were there for what felt like forever! But the food did not disappoint and they did bring Tyler dessert and sang Happy Birthday...though he would not wear the hat! We came home afterwards and Tyler got to open his presents from Uncle Brian. It was a superhero night as he got all the Ninja Turtles, plus Captain America and Spiderman! Caroline also got a new Tiger stuffed animal, which she of course loved!

And we can't forget the main event....Thursday of his birthday week, he got his hard cast! I was so nervous that they weren't going to put it on, which would be problematic because 1) his birthday party at the park would need to be postponed and 2) I wasn't sure what I was going to do with him for school the following week!! The appointment took forever (over 2 hours!!) and started out with getting his blood pressure, height, etc. Then we went for x-rays and waited to be seen by Dr. Warner. First he said, that was one tough break and one of the worst I've ever seen!! WOW!! He then said that the surgery and pin-placement was excellent and that the x-rays showed good healing progress. He said they had it wrapped up really well and he didn't want to move it around and put on a hard cast, but I insisted. Ha! Tyler was really upset when the tech started cutting off the old splint, but he was excited for he green and blue striped cast!! I asked if we could get a waterproof cast or the waterproof cover so he could get it wet and Dr. Warner was not in favor at all...he said with the surgery and the pins, Tyler still needed to be cautious. We made a follow up appointment for 2 weeks out and he thought Tyler would have to wear it 3-4 weeks total. We came home to a fun early birthday present in the mail from Aunt Carol and Uncle Mark, which was a nice surprise!! We also celebrated with cupcakes, too!

In with the new!

Saturday we celebrated Tyler's birthday with friends (more on that in another post!)  On Sunday, his actual birthday, he awoke to birthday donuts from Gibsons and presents from us and Granna. This year he got a marble run from us, plus zoobs, a new game and some swim toys for when his arm gets better. Granna gave him Picassa magnet tiles and money for his college fund. Almost everything requires 2 hands so he needs help right now, but I think they will grow with him in the years to come.

The Monday after Tyler's birthday was his first day back to school in 2 weeks! He got to help led assembly, pick the songs sung and he was also line leader and the door holder for the day! Big stuff when you are 4!! I also took donuts for morning snack so he could celebrate with his class...he loved being the center of attention for both his cast and his birthday!

Tyler,
You are our precious big boy and we love you so much! You are very intelligent and inquisitive at this age and are asking your Mommy and Daddy lots of questions. You are opinionated and like everything arranged just so...and when things don't go your way, you are an epic tantrum thrower! Here's hoping that continues to die down in your 5th year. You are an early riser just like Mommy and you wake up ready for the day and talking up a storm. (You get the talking honestly from your Mommy, too!) You love to boss your sister around and like teaching her things, too. You want to grow up and be just like Daddy...and let's hope you do! I have never been so impressed with you than I have been the past couple weeks in watching you deal with only having one arm. I hope you continue to learn to be adaptable when other life lessons are thrown your way. We love you, Tyler!
