We first wanted to have it at the Collierville Splash Park again like we did last year...in fact I had already ordered invitations and sent them to the printer. But, the city has decided to start charging non-residents and the cost became crazy expensive so we abandoned that idea. I asked Tyler what he thought about a party at a park for his birthday and he was totally on-board and SUPER excited! We explored a few parks, but ultimately decided on Cameron Brown because the playground is mostly shaded and there is a lake so we could also feed the ducks. (Of course, this was all before he broke his elbow, but it ended up working out very well in the end. We would have had to cancel his party if it was at the Splash Park!)
Tyler is very much into superheros (what 4 year old isn't!?), so he requested a Spiderman and Superman birthday party. I was pretty excited to find these cute and reasonable invitations on Etsy.
On party day, we were worried about rain, but it held off and it actually wasn't too super hot. But having your party at 9:30a definitely helps with that, too. I sent Russ early to stake claim on the picnic tables and area we wanted...there was no one there at all! He had it mostly all set up when we arrived and the kids just jumped right into playing.

I think feeding the ducks was my favorite part of the party. All the kids loved it and they went through 4 loaves of bread in just a few minutes! We even saw a Mama duck and 4 baby ducklings at the end. The kids looooved the baby ducks!!
I guess duck-feeding made the kids hungry, because about half of them made a beeline to the drinks and snacks. Since they were all sitting, we just decided to go ahead and do cupcakes then, too, figuring that it would be impossible to get them all wrangled together again. Of course, we had to have Spiderman cupcakes to match the party theme...I apologized to the parents for the awesome dark blue and red icing. Blech! But the kids loved them...Sam's Club cupcakes for the win again!
Snack time!
Cupcake and Happy-Birthday-Singing Time!
We were a little worried about how Tyler would do with his arm since he was only 2 days into his hard cast, but he did really great!! We let he climb small ladders on the playground and he could still slide and run around. He had so much fun playing with and seeing his friends...he had been pretty sheltered for those 2 weeks leading up to his party. All in all, it was a great party that the Birthday Boy loved! And super easy, which made it nice for Mom and Dad, too! Happy 4th Birthday to our Tyler!
