Our Friday night started with a babysitter for the kids so Russ and I could head our separate ways to different activities. Russ went to the Tiger basketball game vs. Ole Miss and I headed to Ashli's house for a girls night with friends. Ashley Leon was still in town from Alaska so this was a good chance to hang out with and see her before she heads back north.
Pop Pop came in town the next morning for his pre-Christmas visit. We started our day with a fun note from our elf, Griswold, that asked the kids to fill a box with toys to donate to other kids in need. The kids were actually really good about going through their toys and filling up the box. What they don't know is that Mama is planning a big PURGE after Christmas of the playroom, too. Pop Pop also opened his gifts from us, too, with a lot of help from the kiddos!
Next up, we packed up the family to go bell-ringing for the Salvation Army at our local Kroger. We only rang for an hour and that was about as long as our kids were willing to go. They were all about it for about the first 10 minutes but then they quickly lost interest. And then there was the constant fighting over the official bells provided by the SA but then they wouldn't ring them. Ha! Oh well. We tried! They both did take some money from their piggy banks to contribute to the kettle, too.
We headed back home for lunch and to rest before our next event...taking in the lights at Starry Nights! We have driven through it the past few years, but this year we decided to take a carriage ride through and extend the experience a little bit longer. The kids loved the carriage ride, especially Caroline who is horse obsessed right now, and being out in the open air to see all the lights! Thank you, Pop Pop, for the special treat!
Sunday, we said goodbye to Pop Pop and headed to Jackson for the Brasfield family Christmas celebration. I made a VAT of sweet potatoes the day before and then went off and left them at home in the fridge! Waaah! We were about 20 minutes into our trip there before I realized. We called Aunt Sandra and she said to just keep coming without them. I felt like a failure, but I guess something was bound to slip during this busy time. Oh well.
We had a great time visiting with family, eating, opening gifts and playing. It was a warmer day so the kids had fun playing outside, too.
