12 month stats and update

Our one year old is now officially a toddler! We went to see Dr. H for Tyler's 12 month checkup last Friday. We had not been to the doctor at all since his 9 month visit and I was anxious to see how much he grew. I knew he felt way heavier (ha!) and he is definitely catching up in height and weight with his buddies that are his age.

Height: 30", 55th percentile (30th at 9 months)

Weight: 21 lbs.14oz., 35th percentile (26th at 9 months)

Head circumference: 45 cm., 15th percentile (13th at 9 months)

Tyler had a great checkup and he is on track with other kids his age. He is cruising up a storm right now, but still not walking. Dr. H said that about half of the 12 month olds he sees are walking and the the other half walk between then and their 15 month appointment. We talked about how we have switched completely to whole milk (goodbye expensive formula) and that he is now exclusively using a sippy cups and Dr. H was pleased with that. We also talked about the paci and how Tyler only uses it at night (which is good) and that we might want to set a goal of being paci-free by our 18 month appointment. I forgot to bring up his labial frenulum (the fact that his 2 middle teeth are growing into his upper gum)...we can discuss it at 15 months. We discussed that he is a picky eater, especially with veggies, and Dr. H said to try to get 1 veggie in him a day. (We will try, but it's not likely!) By 15 months, Tyler should be walking and saying anywhere from 5 to 50 words! Crazy! He did get 3 shots at the end and did not enjoy them! I think shots get worse as they get older. :(

Here are some other things about you, Tyler, at 12 months old...

You are solidly in 12 month clothes and some of those are starting to get snug. In the past month, I have put 2 cute outfits on you that I was saving for a special occasion, only to find them too small! BOO! We have had the hardest time finding shoes to fit you! I have bought several pair and they just don't fit well, so I finally took you to Jackson's Shoes in Collierville last weekend to be fitted. We found 2 pairs of sandals that work well and should last you until the end of the summer. Bad news is that I spent $65...and that was with both of the them on sale! 

You are still in size 4 diapers and a 3/4 swim diaper, though I did buy your first size 5 diapers the other day. I have also started putting you in Target brand diapers instead of the expensive Pampers and they seem to work just fine. We may look into nighttime diapers because you are starting to need them!

Sleep is still going well at night. You go to bed between 7:30-8p and get up at 7a (though you are usually awake playing in your bed before.) We are looking forward to when you move up to the next room at school so you will nap better during the week. You are still taking 2 naps for 2 hours each at home on the weekends, though Dr. H said to expect that to change to one nap very soon. Another boo!

You gained another lower tooth this month and now have 7 teeth - 4 on top and 3 on the bottom.

You have learned to "kick your feet" on command and "cluck" your tongue. You are getting better at waving "bye-bye" and usually open and close both hands when you "wave".

You "talk" and "sing" a lot and most of it makes no sense! You are saying ma-ma, da-da, out and uh-oh really well and very consistently. You say some other words like up and dog, but not all the time.

You are so full of yourself and LOVE making us laugh by playing peek-a-boo and doing other cute things.You also will scream REALLY loudly when we aren't paying attention to you, too, and that is not so cute.

With the screaming also comes the terrible toddler temper tantrums and we are NOT huge fans! Dr. H said we are to ignore them and your attitude as best as possible, but it is so hard. Sometimes, it is so darn funny and other times you are so frustrating. One of your biggest offenses that we have little patience for is when you play in Bonnie's water bowl. Grrrr! We tell you NO repeatedly and then end up just moving you to a different place while you pitch a fit, arch your back and throw yourself forward onto the floor.You will also cover up your eyes with your hands and "fake cry"...that can actually be pretty funny. We are doing our best to ignore it.

As I mentioned, you are still not walking, but you can totally do it. You are just super cautious and are afraid of falling. Plus you can get anywhere you need to go at lightening speed by crawling.

You are such a busy and curious little boy right now, Tyler. We are learning that this is a trying age to be a parent, but you are still so very loved!!
