The third day of our trip, we left San Francisco bound for Sonoma/Napa with a quick stop at Muir Woods on the way. Our rental car pickup was literally across the street from our hotel, so that made things easier. We drove across the Golden Gate bridge on our way out of town, which was super cool!

We both really wanted to visit Muir Woods, a National Monument of preserved old-growth coastal redwoods just outside of the city, and this was really our only chance during our jam-packed trip. The trek to the park was not for the faint of heart...the roads were TINY, curvy and just plain scary to drive. The fog and the crazy people who thought it was a good idea to BIKE those roads made it even worse! I was both motion sick and afraid for my life as I prayed we would get there safely and not kill anyone or ourselves on the way. Once we arrived, we had just an hour and half to spend there when we could have gotten lost on those trails for hours. It was so majestic, beautiful, peaceful and quiet...it was like time just stopped and we were surrounded by God's glory in those beautiful redwoods. It was an amazing highlight of our trip that you should not miss if you are ever in the area.

We went straight from Muir Woods to Robert Sinskey vineyards in Napa, where we had booked a Farm-to-Table tour and tasting. RS is an organic winery that specializes in food and drink pairings, giving the taster a truly unique experience. They have their own organic garden and grow everything on property. We took a tour of the garden before sitting down in the kitchen while the chef prepared small plates of food to sample with their choice of wine pairings. It was a super fun first taste of wine country.

We headed back to Sonoma to the race track (the whole reason for this trip) so I could get the lay of the land. It was a first to see grazing sheep on the hills near the parking lots - ha! The gas fumes were making my pregnancy nauseousness come out in full force and I was really nervous for race day and how I would be feeling. We checked into our hotel (the Embassy Napa) and rested a bit before we headed to dinner as a big group at La Toque. It was amazing!! Then it was off to bed...we had a 6a start on Race Day! Yikes!
