For the past 10 weeks or so, I have been running 3-4 mornings a week with my sweet friend Heather. We have been doing the Couch to 5K program since we are both trying to ease our way into running again. It has been so great to find a running partner close by who also needs to get up at 5a to get their morning workout in before the day begins. It just doesn't happen if I don't do it then. We rotate meeting at each other's house and then we typically run the Greenway on a weekend morning.
Yesterday, we ran the Color Run 5K together and our families came to watch. Neither of us had done a Color Run before so we thought it would be fun. They encourage you to wear the race shirt that is white so that when they throw the colored powder on you mid-run, it will show up better. It was a weird weather day and the wind was out-of-control crazy! It put a little bit of a damper on some of the pre-race festivities that were planned. But it actually kinda worked in our favor to cool us down and it sprinkled some while we were running, too, which was actually pretty nice. The course just wove around the Liberty Bowl and mostly in the parking lots, which made it easy for the kids to watch us. They just moved around to the different color stations. The highlight was definitely getting to run across the football field at the Liberty Bowl where the Tigers play! The race wasn't timed and we took a few walking breaks, but we finished and had a good time. We got cleaned up, changed clothes and headed to Mexican for dinner as a group afterwards. It was a fun day!

She is happy here, but overall she HATED the colored powder. She would cry and want to be held when other people were throwing it. |

The powder actually glows in the dark (which would have been cool for the later night race), so they had tons of glow stick stuff. |

And we're off! The kids didn't see us off because they were too busy devouring a funnel cake! |

After pic! Honestly, we didn't look too bad. Though I was still blowing green color out of my nose almost 36 hours later... |

We signed up for the MRTC Womens Running Program (this will be my 3rd time to do it) and we start next week. We are hoping to improve our time and run the graduation 5K with no stops. This program is what got me into running when I first did it in 2009, so I am hoping it can help me again, post-babies. At this point, I think it's a mental thing for me...well, that and the summer heat and humidity! Our ultimate goal is to run the St. Jude Half Marathon in December...it will be my 3rd half, but first post-babies.
