Swimming lessons for Tyler

Tyler just finished a week of private swimming lessons with Ms. Hope and he did great! This was our 2nd year with Ms. Hope after doing the Mommy/Daddy and Me lessons last year. We decided to do private lessons since Tyler is so shy and gets easily distracted and it was the best decision since he got 1/1 attention. The first 2 days were full of tears, but Wednesday and Thursday's tears ended pretty quickly after he got his goggles on. Friday was the day we could watch and he loved showing off his skills. He can pick up rings from the bottom of the pool (with a slight push down), jump in and swim to Ms. Hope, swim across the pool (with help for breaths) and jump off the diving board!! We are so proud of our big boy!!

Diving for rings.

Practicing ice cream scoop arms before he swims across the pool.

Floating...he wouldn't do it for very long on the last day, only floating on his own for 7 seconds.

We had actually booked 2 weeks of private lessons but Ms. Hope felt that she had taught him everything he was physically going to be able to do in the 1st week. It takes most kids until 3 1/2 until they are able to take that breath solo to be able to swim on their own. We are looking forward to lessons again next year and in the meantime, we will work on taking our breaths, ice cream scoop arms, kicking on top of the water and floating on our back. We celebrated after lessons with Memphis Pizza Cafe!

We love Ms. Hope!!

Tyler enjoying his sucker from Ms. Hope for doing so well this week!
Caroline wanted the lemon, so we gave it to her...

This is what she thought of it! Ha!

Here are a few videos from the last day. My phone died at the end so I wasn't able to get the video of him jumping off the diving board and swimming all the way across the pool to the shallow end steps....but he did it! (With help for breaths, of course!)

We did decide to enroll Caroline in a Mommy/Daddy and Me class later in July with Ms. Hope, just to get her exposed to the water in a structured environment. She hasn't been too crazy about swimming in our pool this year (mainly because it's so cold!), so I think it will be good for her.
I tried my best to keep C entertained during Tyler's lessons!

Of course snacks and Elmo only lasted so long before she was
into everything on Ms. Hope's porch. Longest 30 mins of my life!
