Tyler's Parent/Teacher Conference

Starting in the 2 year old rooms, CtK does mid-year "testing" with each of the kids one-on-one to gauge what they have learned. They send home a progress report with the skills they have learned and what they still need to master. It is followed up with a parent/teacher conference to go over everything.

We have not had a parent/teacher conference per-say with Mrs. Beaudry this year, but due to Tyler's behavior (occasional tantrums and outbursts that seem to be more prevalent when I travel), we have had several phone meetings and email exchanges about Tyler already. I am happy to say that his behavior seems to be in a good place right now. Mrs. Beaudry is committed to learning his triggers and what motivates him. She is communicating with us when he has not had a good day and then we are able to reinforce at home in a timely manner. We are so grateful for her!

So, when Russ and I met with her on Tyler's progress report, we were not shocked to see that he still has some maturing to do in some of the social areas, like showing kindness to others, sharing, listening and accepting discipline. Though, I need to say how THRILLED we are with the progress he has made this year...he has learned to keep his hands to himself, sit quietly and many other important things. He has friends and gets along and plays well with others, too. He is one of the youngest in his class, as many of the kids are already 4, so that has a lot to do with his maturity. I hear that age 4 is the BEST age, so I am excited for what's to come for him socially.

can accomplish many more things than is listed here.

Tyler has seen a lot of growth in his fine motor skills this year. He has learned how to cut and glue, how to hold his pencil and crayons. He is working on coloring in the lines, still. We are impressed with what he is now able to do in this area.

Mrs. Beaudry says Tyler is very smart. In fact, she said that she is not supposed to compare, but that he is one of the brightest kids she has ever taught...and she's been a teacher for over 20 years! That made us so proud of our boy! She said academically he is at the top of his class...he is ready for reading and sight words. She was amazed at how hungry he was to learn...when she pulled him aside for testing, he wanted to keep doing more and more. He can count to 100 easily (though she said when she tested him he said he was tired of counting by 45 or so...ha!) She said he is motivated, driven and when given a task, will happily work on it independently without help.  She showed this worksheet as an example...he cut them out, matched and glued them and colored them without a word!

We talked a little bit about who would be the best teacher for him next year with his personality. We are still considering who that will be, but she said he is definitely ready for the 4 year old class! They will test again at the end of the year and his progress report from the year will be sent home with us.
