A Dr. Seuss 2nd Birthday Parade

On Saturday afternoon, we had Tyler's 2nd birthday party at our house with friends. Tyler is getting into Dr. Seuss books and he likes the "Cat in the Hat" PBS show, so that was our theme. Tyler woke up from his nap and was ooohhing and aaaahhing over all the decorations. He especially loved the balloons and was in the best mood. He definitely understood that there was about to be a party and that he was the guest of honor!

Check out his shoes...he was wearing 2 different sized
sandals...and the right one was obviously too small! Ha!
Everyone signed this Dr. Seuss Happy Birthday book for Tyler.
Instead of gifts, we asked his friends to bring books to donate
to the Go Lucy Go Foundation to be read by LeBonheur patients.
Nicholas signing his name in the book he brought.
Chloe and Maddison
Lily writing in Tyler's book
The main activity was a birthday party parade! We asked all the kids to bring their favorite ride-on toy (like a bike or scooter) to decorate and then we paraded up and down our street. Russ led the parade in his truck with marching band music blaring from the speakers and all the big kids followed closely behind. It was really cute and I think both big and little kids had fun!!

Reed's scooter is decorated and ready to go!

Alex and Reed were psyched to lead to the parade! I loved how
their Mama told them "this is NOT a race" before we started! Ha!

Looks like Tyler has a little bike envy here... :)
Maddison decorating her scooter.
Ryan was ready to go!

Will is ready in his Memphis Tigers colored Dr. Seuss hat!
Sweet Jaxson ready to ride!
Ryan and Madison ready in their cars!

Tyler watching the big kids in front of him like a hawk!!

Half the group made the turn and headed back while the slow-pokes brought up the rear
Axel had the right idea jumping in the back of the truck. Love his beauty
pageant wave. He gets lots of practice being the Daddy to 2 girls!

Runyan in his super-cool ride!!
We took up the entire street! I'm so glad there were no cars!!
Sweet Jaxson jumped in the wagon with Tyler for the ride back so his Mama was carrying his ride!

The post-parade scene
After the parade, we sang Happy Birthday and ate cupcakes and ice cream. Tyler was MUCH more into his cupcake this year than last and even knew to blow out the candle!! He knows a good thing now when he sees it! Ha!
There was a bit of a cupcake debacle...when I went to pick them up,
they were maroon, turquoise green and white! What?! SO not the Dr.

Seuss colors I wanted and I was not happy. White cupcakes saved the day!!

He knew just what to do but couldn't quite blow it out by himself.
Digging in!!
Sweet Janna helping Bennett with his cupcake.
Bennett made a bee-line to the table when he heard "cupcake"!
And he just stuck his whole mouth right on top of it! Ha!

The sugar-rush was followed up with a lot of playing in our recently finished backyard space!! It seemed like the kids had a blast and we loved seeing everyone. I could not have pulled it off without the help of Russ and Granna, who did so much to get our yard and playspace ready for everyone. Another successful birthday party in the books. Happy Birthday to our most favorite TWO year old!!
