We decided to start decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving again this year and I am so glad we did. Not only do we have more time to enjoy the decorations and do other fun things in December, but it also gave me more time to fix all the things that decided to break! It seems like almost everything that lights up had issues this year - all of our outside garland had to be replaced and we had to trash one of our gold outdoor presents, too. Oh well. I had been wanting to replace our outside garland anyway and try that mesh ribbon stuff. I love how it turned out. You can't really tell, but I also got new red glitter bows for the wreaths in the windows.
Our pre-lit Christmas tree also had light issues when a small bottom section wouldn't light up. Russ had spent a ton of time on it (and the outside decorations before we trashed them) and he still hasn't managed to figure out. Again, oh well...we just turned that section of the tree to the back. We got it up and all fluffed with garland on, but then it sat there until after Thanksgiving. Luckily, our elf, Griswold, helped us finish the tree AND brought our new Polar Express tree that will go around our tree every year. The night before, we read Tyler the "Elf on the Shelf" book and talked about names for our Elf...he wanted Norma Jean (the Mama penguin on "Happy Feet"...yes, he's still obsessed), but that wouldn't work since we had a boy elf. We gave him a few Christmasy suggestions and he picked Griswold. Tyler was actually pretty scared of Griswold when he first saw him riding the train around the tree. He's loves the train now that Griswold has moved on to other places in our house, but he is still not sure about his elf.

Christmas decorating is finished everywhere else in the house, too. We didn't get our Memphis tree up this year for the first time in 12 years, I think. We always put it in the office and now we don't have anywhere to put it. We may put it in Tyler's room next year. I took Monday off to finish up decorating and when Tyler walked in the den he shouted, "It looks cute in here!!"
We also pulled out our Little People Nativity again and it is on the hearth by the fireplace. We went through who all the people were (Baby Jesus, Mommy Mary, Daddy Joseph, etc.) and when we were done he said, "Where's the sister?" He also argues with me that the angel is is really a girl butterfly...
